The
USGS would like to congratulate Erin Towler on receiving a PACE
Fellowship (Postdocs
Applying Climate Expertise) appointment for
2010-2012. Erin received her PhD in Water Resource Engineering
at the University of Colorado. As a PACE fellow, she will focus
on applied climate
change research in the Northern Rockies. Erin's project will be
jointly funded by the Climate Program Office at the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the
USGS Science Applications and Decision Support program for Global
Change. Specifically, she will work with the Nested Regional Climate
Model (NRCM)
development team at NCAR, formulating new tools to downscale climate
projections for decision-making and planning in the Northern Rockies.
She will focus mainly on changes to water resources and associated
impacts. Erin will also be collaborating with scientists at USGS'
Northern Rocky
Mountain Science Center and the emerging Great Northern Landscape
Conservation Cooperative, a consortium of state and federal agencies,
universities,
and NGOs.
The goal of the PACE program is to grow the pool of scientists qualified
to transfer advances in climate science and climate prediction into
climate-related decision framework(s) and decision tools. The program
is sponsored by NOAA Climate Programs Office and pairs early-career
climate scientists with two co-hosting institutions: one host provides
the climate research expertise guidance, and the other host is a decision-making
institution that provides the opportunity for the PACE fellow to immerse
themselves in a decision-making culture and learn from each other.
